Environment & Sustainability

Updated: June 27, 2024

Here at Brunswick East Primary School, we take our responsibilities towards our local and global communities seriously. Brunswick East has recently re-joined the Resource Smart Schools Program. Resource Smart Schools is a program offered by Sustainability Victoria that supports Victorian schools to embed sustainability across their facilities community and curriculum, while saving resources and money. Here at BEPS we are learning and practising ways to integrate sustainability.

We are currently working on our Resource Smart Core module. The school will conduct a Biodiversity audit and work on creating a 4 year environmental management plan for the school as well as set up a green team with students from each LC to communicate and celebrate different sustainable actions we are taking in the school.

Over the years, BEPS has established a vibrant kitchen garden that links the children to their world through the propagation and harvesting of the plants and observations of change throughout the seasons. We heartily compost and recycle classroom waste.

Environment and sustainability is very much part of the community dialogue here at BEPS, and over the years our regular fundraising markets and annual Twilight Market have become increasingly greener and sustainable.

In addition to this whole school approach, we also have a dedicated Environment and Sustainability Committee consisting of teacher and parent members. Please check this page regularly for information about the children’s environmental initiatives and environment, and sustainability in the curriculum.
