Physical Education

The fundamental aim of the Physical Education program at BEPS is to instill a love of movement and exercise and to create lifelong particiaption in physical activity. Our program is underpinned by two key areas of the Victorian Curriculum:

  • The acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies to enable students to confidently, competently and creatively participate in a range of physical activities.
  • The idea that movement is a powerful medium for learning through which students can acquire and refine personal, behavioural, social and cognitive skills.

Interschool sports

Students at BEPS in Years 4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to particiapte in a range of Interschool Sports against other schools from the Brunswick region.

Students can participate in:

  • cricket
  • lacrosse
  • AFL
  • Soccer
  • touch rugby
  • T-Ball
  • volley catch.

Individual students can also represent BEPS at the State Championships in athletics, swimming, and cross country.

Swimming program

Each year, BEPS students participate in lessons of swimming tuition with professional swimming coaches at a local pool. Details are shared with families at the appropriate time throughout the school year. The program has a focus on water safety and meets the requirements of the Health and Physical Education curriculum.

Brunswick East Primary School acknowledges the over 85,000 years of care and Custodianship of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation for the lands and waters that it resides on. We pay respect to Wurundjeri Elders, past and present, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Their sovereignty has never been ceded and this always was and always will be Aboriginal Land. We live, learn, and gather as a community on Wurundjeri Land and commit ourselves as Aboriginal people, Torres Strait Islander people, and allies for today and future generations, walking together.
