There are various ways to get involved in making the Friday Markets a success.
We need will need volunteers from 2.30 p.m. on the day of the Friday Market to start setting up to about 4.30 p.m. for pack-up and cleaning. Sausage ordering needs to take place on the Wednesday before the market, and bread also needs to be purchased prior.
We need your support in the following areas:
- Stall set up: Help set up tables, BBQ, and items for sale
- Run market stall: Staff the stalls (with some help from the kids!), interact with the community, and sell goods
- Cook and sell sausages at the BBQ
- Pack up and clean after the event.
We no longer need parents to order and collect sausages and bread. This will be done each week by the school office team.
Food Donations
- Baked goods: Families are encouraged to donate baked goods for sale at the market. These can be dropped off in the kitchen in the Agora from the morning of the market.
- Label ingredients: Please ensure all donated food is clearly labelled with ingredients for allergy safety.
Learning Communities will send out a sign-up spreadsheet link through Compass at the start of the week of their Friday Market.
Useful instructions and guides
Setting up and cooking the BBQ
- BBQ gas bottles are kept in locked cage under ramp off Agora pit.
- They can be accessed and changed over if needed. If they are empty please notify the office.
- Setting up the BBQ is best done by about 2.30 p.m. Customers starting to arrive around 3.15 p.m. or so. Sausages should hopefully be on the grill around 2:45-3:00 pm.
- It is easy enough to set up the BBQ – usual heat up and wipe down the plate is best before starting.
- Pre-arranging slices of bread in napkins is also useful to combat the rush.
- Leave space on a table beside the BBQ for sauces and money handling. Napkins, tongs, sauces, etc. are located in the Art Room Kitchen. If any items are low, please let the office know so they can re-order.
Setting up market tables
Tables for the market come from under the stage in the hall, usually around 5 should be enough.
The Float
- Collect the float from the front office before 3 p.m.
- Return all the money to the office at the end of the market, in the float container.
Waste-wise tips
- If selling bottles or cans, collect empties in a designated bin to deposit in the BEPS Container Deposit Scheme
- Keep veggie and food scraps for chickens and compost
- Try to avoid single-use plastic items and disposable cups and plates.
- Use paper patty liners for cupcakes
- Use paper bags if necessary.
