Our Garden and Science program follows the Victorian Curriculum, encouraging students to explore the world through curiosity, hands-on investigation, and real-life application. From Foundation to Year 6, students build their understanding of living systems, materials, forces, and the environment while learning to ask questions, make observations, test ideas, and explain their thinking using evidence.
BEPS has a dedicated garden space featuring nine raised beds, a greenhouse, shade house, chicken coop, small orchard, and a large wood-fired pizza oven. This space is shared with the community, supporting plant propagation and contributing to the wider school grounds.
Learning in the garden provides meaningful, real-world contexts where students see how science connects to everyday life. As students progress through the hands on practical and classroom-based elements of this specialist program, they move from noticing and describing to explaining patterns, understanding systems, and making informed decisions, building both scientific knowledge and critical thinking skills.
Our Foundation students also have their own courtyard, with two dedicated garden beds where they can watch their potato and carrot crops grow right outside their classroom window!
In addition to our vibrant and well-equipped outdoor space, we also have a dedicated science room equipped with a kitchen facility for cooking and tasting produce from our students efforts!
