Get involved

Join a subcommittee and make a real impact

Why volunteer on a subcommittee?

Subcommittees at Brunswick East Primary School are more than just an opportunity to help out – volunteering on a subcommittee is also a constructive way to make positive change at the school.

These are the spaces where key decisions are made, where the future of the school is shaped, and where you can be part of creating a community that reflects the values and experiences you want for your kids.

It’s a fun and rewarding way to get involved and a chance to meet new friends and make a lasting difference in your child’s school experience.

Our subcommittees

Do you love bringing people together and supporting a great cause? The Fundraising and Community Building Subcommittee is your chance to help raise funds to improve the school, all while creating connections with local businesses and members of the community. From brainstorming creative fundraising ideas to connecting with local businesses, this is your chance to make a direct impact while fostering a vibrant community spirit. If you’ve got a creative flair or simply want to help organise fun events that make a difference, this is the subcommittee for you!

The Building and Grounds subcommittee is all about transforming our school environment into a more inspiring and functional place for students and families alike. Whether you’re passionate about architecture, landscape design, playground design, gardening, or just want to help with basic repairs, this is a great way to get hands-on in improving the school’s outdoor areas.
If you have experience in horticulture, building, or even just enjoy getting your hands dirty at our Working Bees, your contributions will help make our school grounds a welcoming, well-maintained space.

At BEPS, we are committed to making our school a culturally safe and responsive environment. The Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal statement of our commitment to reconciliation, and we need your help to bring this important initiative to life.
As a member of this subcommittee, you’ll help implement the RAP, raise awareness, and promote a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. This is an opportunity to be a part of something truly impactful, to honour the wisdom, resilience, and culture of the First Peoples of this land, and to work alongside the community to build stronger connections.

Our OSHC program is one of the cornerstones of the school’s out-of-classroom experience, and we’re always looking for ways to make it even better.
The BEPS OSHC program is proudly community-run. This approach takes time and effort. Some days, OSHC can care for a BEPS student for up to 5 hours a day – managing this service in-house means that BEPS families can ensure the highest level of care and safety is maintained.
Whether you’re interested in contributing ideas for activities or ensuring the continued high standards, your involvement will help shape the experience for BEPS students and families.

If you would like more information about joining a subcommittee, or want to suggest a project or idea for consideration, we’d love to hear from you.

In the classroom

Parent and community support in highly valued at BEPS. It offers invaluable learning opportunities to children and helps support school programs. We encourage you to speak to your child’s learning community teachers about how you might be able to help out in the classroom.

Activities might include:

  • Attending excursions
  • Reading with students
  • Walks to the Merri Creek.

Working with Children Check

To ensure you are able to fully participate in school events we ask that you complete a Victorian Working With Children Check. This enables you to help us by supervising children in small groups and assisting on excursions. This check is completely free for volunteers. You can find more information on obtaining a check and card from www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au .

Gaining a Working With Children Check is incredibly helpful to the school. It means community members are able to work with small groups of children and you are able to support teaching staff with supervision on excursions, helping to keep costs down. For every 20 children we take out of the school we are required to take one adult supervisor. Without community support we would have to employ an extra staff member for the day adding significantly to the cost.

Please provide a copy of your Working With Children Card to the school office.

The community of Brunswick East Primary School respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we gather and learn, and pays respect to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples.
